What is B Corp certification?

B Corporations are companies dedicated to using their businesses to make a positive impact on the world. To become certified, a company must pass an impact assessment focussed on its governance, transparency, environmental and social impact.

“B Corps redefine success in business by competing not to be the best in the world, but to be the best for the world.”

This is the ethos at the heart of B Corps and something For Goodness Sake are committed to at every level of business.


 

Social impact

For many Australian farmers, business and profitability is dictated by big chain agents and wholesalers. For Goodness Sake are putting farmers back on the land by cutting out the middleman, supplying produce direct from farms to the community. Our founders will also commit to a yearly grant to a farmer mental health charity.

Our commitment to community is at the core of the business, with 10% of every purchase committed to supporting groups that actively participate in connecting and improving local communities.  Organisations can register with FGS if they affect one or more of the following criteria:

  • Environment

  • Children and youth

  • Education

  • Arts and culture

  • Support services for vulnerable people

  • Health

  • Human rights

  • Indigenous issues

  • Social enterprise

FGS strives to maintain safe and ethical workplace practices that reward our employees. Staff are entitled to discounts on produce, relevant skills training and access to fair and generous pay, health coverage, superannuation and paternity/maternity leave. 5% of FGS ownership has also been allocated as staff incentive, rewarding dedicated employees with equity in the business and empowering them to be part of the FGS family.


 

Environmental impact

Taking good care of the environment is an essential element of For Goodness Sake. We’ve partnered with OzHarvest, who are devoted to reducing food waste and feeding those with food insecurity. Shoppers may elect OzHarvest to receive their 10% community donation, which is our default community organisation.

We are also committed to minimising the environmental impact of our deliveries through advanced route planning, recycling all cardboard and paper waste and supporting sustainable, environmentally friendly farming practices.


 

Governance

FGS recognises the importance of good governance are very self-critical about our standards and practices. Our advisory board meets quarterly to provide perspective on how best to improve our business model. The board contains a diverse mix of people, both from within and outside the company and is responsible for observing and advising the strategic direction of the business and measuring its effectiveness by way of social and environmental impact milestones.


 

Transparency

To maximise our impact and remain fully accountable, FGS has pledged to provide the highest level of transparency possible. We set and measure regular targets to track the effectiveness of our organisation. Targets track our donations to community organisations, number of farmers we enable to go back on the the land full time, sales targets and customer engagement and satisfaction. Our supply chain is 100% transparent and available to the public and our targets and progress are published on our website.

For Goodness Sake have been independently assessed and found to be eligible for B Corp status. We aim to become Certified in 2017
